What is butyl rubber?
Butyl rubber (IIR) is a kind of non-polar, low unsaturated and crystalline rubber, which is made by co-polymerization of isobutylene monomer and a small amount of isoprene. It has good chemical stability and thermal stability, the most prominent is the air tightness and water tightness. Its transmittance to air is only 1/7 of natural rubber, 1/5 of styrene butadiene rubber, and the transmittance to steam is 1/200 of natural rubber, 1/140 of styrene butadiene rubber. Therefore, it is mainly used to manufacture all kinds of rubber products such as inner tube, steam tube, water tire, dam bottom and washer.
Characteristics of butyl rubber
1. Low permeability and good air tightness
The dense arrangement of side methyl groups in the molecular chain of butyl rubber restricts the thermal motion of polymer molecules.
2. Good thermal stability
It can be used in the air for a long time at 100℃ or slightly lower temperature. Desulfurized butyl rubber service temperature can reach 150℃ to 200℃
3. Good energy absorption
There is no double bond in the molecular structure of butyl rubber, and the distribution density of side chain methyl is high.
4. Ozone resistance and weather aging resistance
5. Good chemical stability
6. Good electrical insulation
7. Extremely low water permeability
Butyl rubber production method
1. The slurry method
The slurry method is prepared by cationic polymerization of isobutene and a small amount of isoprene at low temperature (about -100℃) with chloromethane as diluent and H2O-AlCl3 as initiating system.
2. The solution method
The traditional slurry synthesis of butyl rubber production technology is mature, but due to the polymerization reaction temperature is low, refrigeration equipment is huge, polymerization kettle continuous operation cycle is short, high energy consumption (1kg glue energy consumption of about 35 ~ 55MJ). In order to increase the reaction temperature, the synthesis of butyl rubber by solution method has been studied.

7. Low requirements for the working environment: the ambient temperature is 40 degrees Celsius to 80 degrees Celsius, the humidity is below 80 percent to normal use, strong adaptability to the environment.

1. New project roof waterproof, underground waterproof, structural construction joint waterproof treatment, polymer waterproof coil lap sealing.
2. Municipal engineering subway tunnel structure construction joint sealing waterproof treatment.
3. Color pressed steel plate joint sealing, waterproof, shock absorption. The joint of the solar panel project is sealed, waterproof and shock-absorbing.
4. Used for bonding cement, wood, PC, PE, PVC, EPDM, CPE and other materials.
5. Used for waterproofing and sealing of joints, closing places and irregular places in waterproof engineering.
6. Door waterproof film, shock absorption bonding and sealing between the body and the skeleton, the car and the floor.
7. It can be used for air tight and waterproof treatment of doors and Windows of civil residences, air tight and waterproof treatment of ventilation pipes and building decoration.
8. Used to make tires. Butyl rubber is widely used in the production of tire and tire (bicycle, motorcycle, etc.) inner tube lining, vulcanized capsules and water tires.
9. Used for medical bottle stoppers. Butyl of medical bottle stopper is the second largest demand market of halogenated butyl rubber in China.
